Probing lattice dynamics in ST 12 phase germanium nanowires by Raman spectroscopy

چکیده

Germanium (Ge) plays a crucial role in setting up important functionalities for silicon-compatible photonics. Diamond cubic germanium is an extensively studied semiconductor, although its other exotic forms, like BC8, ST8, ST12 phases, may possess distinct electronic properties. We have fabricated stable ST12-Ge nanowires via self-seeded bottom-up three phase growth confined supercritical toluene environment. Here, we report on the direct evidence of presence by combination Raman spectroscopy and first-principles calculations using density functional theory (DFT). It to remark that DFT calculation predicts all active optical phonon modes P 4321 structure, it very good agreement with experimental results. The dynamics as function temperature investigated through measurements at temperatures varying from 80 300 K. First-order coefficients observed are estimated linear dependence shifts. A complete set isobaric Grüneisen parameters reported nanowire, values lower compared same Si, dc-Ge bulk, Ge nanowire. These results implications understanding thermal properties

Probing nanoscale ferroelectricity by ultraviolet Raman spectroscopy.

We demonstrated that ultraviolet Raman spectroscopy is an effective technique to measure the transition temperature (Tc) in ferroelectric ultrathin films and superlattices. We showed that one-unit-cell-thick BaTiO3 layers in BaTiO3/SrTiO3 superlattices are not only ferroelectric (with Tc as high as 250 kelvin) but also polarize the quantum paraelectric SrTiO3 layers adjacent to them. Tc was tun...

Raman spectroscopy of silicon nanowires

We measure the effects of phonon confinement on the Raman spectra of silicon nanowires. We show how previous spectra were inconsistent with phonon confinement, but were due to intense local heating caused by the laser. This is peculiar to nanostructures, and would require orders of magnitude more power in bulk Si. By working at very low laser powers, we identify the contribution of pure confine...

Spatially resolved Raman spectroscopy on indium-catalyzed core-shell germanium nanowires: size effects.

The structure of indium-catalyzed germanium nanowires is investigated by atomic force microscopy, scanning confocal Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The nanowires are formed by a crystalline core and an amorphous shell. We find that the diameter of the crystalline core varies along the nanowire, down to few nanometers. Phonon confinement effects are observed in the regio...

Probing the nature of defects in graphene by Raman spectroscopy.

Raman spectroscopy is able to probe disorder in graphene through defect-activated peaks. It is of great interest to link these features to the nature of disorder. Here we present a detailed analysis of the Raman spectra of graphene containing different type of defects. We found that the intensity ratio of the D and D' peak is maximum (∼13) for sp(3)-defects, it decreases for vacancy-like defect...
